Common ApplicationCommon Application is a single application which allows you to send your essays and letters of recommendation to as many colleges around the US as possible! You will find most colleges on here. Common Application opens up on August 1st so get started on those essays early on!

CFNCPlanning to stay in NC for college or looking to go to community college? CFNC is for you! Almost all NC colleges will be available on CFNC to apply. CFNC also allows you to apply for free during College Application Week (October 19, 2020-October 23, 2020). CFNC is where you will request your transcripts.

Senior year, what now?
August
Make a list of 3-5 schools you wish to apply to. Below are some questions to help guide your list making.
- Take a look at your GPA and transcript. Where does your GPA fall? Take a look at a list of colleges and what their required GPA is. Do you match up with those schools?Create your list of schools which you plan to apply to.
- Where are the schools at? Do you want to stay close to home or go far?
- How large of a campus are you comfortable with? Do you want a small campus with smaller classrooms, or do you wish to tackle a large campus and classrooms with over 300 students!
- Create your Common Application account, create or recover your CFNC account.
September
- Make sure you've started writing your essays, email me if you need help brainstorming or editing.
- Identify 3-5 teachers who can write your letters of recommendation and ask them early!
- Most Early Action/Decision deadlines will be in September. Keep a calendar with deadlines listed so you don't miss a date!
- Fill out your RDS, make sure you have all the documents needed for FAFSA.
October
October arrives faster than expected! Make sure you have met with Ms. Pocasangre to verify you have all the information needed. The following is a list of what you may need, note College Application Week takes place in October (19th-23rd)!
- Letters of Recommendation
- Essay(s)
- Residential Determination Service
- Fee Waiver (for college or ACT/SAT)
- SAT/ACT
November
- Check your email continuously, some schools may reach out for additional information.
- Check your application portals, schools will notify you if you are missing information.
- Continue sending in applications.
- Continue searching for scholarships.
- Meet with Ms. Pocasangre to make sure you have everything done.
December
- Early Action/Decision Applicants will start finding out about a decision over winter break or right after! Check those emails.
- Enjoy your winter break, you've earned if after so much work. Be prepared to pick up the work in January!
January, February, March, April, May:
By spring, most colleges will have sent out their decisions. Early applicants will have heard back around the holiday season but some schools may still be making decisions. Make sure to stay in touch with Ms. Pocasangre, your college representative, and check up on your application status (and your email!) A lot of colleges will still be accepting applications but DO NOT wait last minute!
Even if you've been accepted, make sure you are keeping your grades up in your classes. Colleges WILL rescind your admissions decision if you fail a class.
