Exceptions/FAQ:
I do not have a social security number, what do I do? Unfortunately, students without social security numbers are not eligible to receive in-state tuition. There are some exceptions (VISA, Refugee Status, etc.). You will still have to complete RDS and answer "NO" to the question "Do you claim to be a North Carolina Resident?" Please contact Ms. Pocasangre to learn more. See graphic below for more information.
I have a social security number (SSN) but my parent/guardian does not, what do I do? You will continue filling out the application like normal, when you get to the parent section you will use their Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) for your parents INSTEAD of a SSN. If your parent files taxes, this number can be found under the box titled "Social Security Number" (please note, this is not actually a SSN). See graphic below for more information.
My parents aren't married. Whose information do I use? You will use the parent you live with most of the time.
I do not live with my parent/guardian and cannot get their information. What do I do? Contact me ASAP if this is the case. I will work with you on an individual basis as every case is different.
I don't know my login for CFNC. You have the option to reset your password. If you still need help, contact me and I can send you a link to reset your account.
I put down the wrong information and got listed as out-of-state. Don't worry, you are allowed to file a correction or reconsideration if you are incorrectly listed as out-of-state. Contact me if you need help.
